Filter tilting with scroll wheel mechanism

Post by allhoest »

Hi,

Here a tilt mechanism, tailor made by a machinist.
I have 2 of them, which I can put at 90° angle, so to have freedom to adjust any angle (Correct some non orthogonality...).
T2 M & F connectors on each end.
Because of parasitic light, I put some band on the sides (Not tested yet).

Nice solution! Looks like a pair of tilt tuners from the old SM40s.

Hi,

Very clever solution. This is the first time I see a tilter like that. I am womdering why nobody came up with the idea earlier :?

In order to avoid light leak I have put in my etalon tilter some very thin foam maybe 1mm thick only. In that way I had no rpblem with the tilting mechanism

Yes, the idea comes from the tuner of front etalons.
Adjusting is very quick. The problem is that refocus is needed after each adjustment.

Parasitic light: Using foam is a good idea, but maybe not easy to fit is not dismantled.
Parasitic could be reduced by a better design of the internal part.

Hi,

I measured the inner diameter and cut the foam to the length of it (Diameter x PI) and put it inside and the ends pressing on each other and it is in there since a few years and has not movedat all

I do not think that you ahve to readjust every time as the position one conmfirmed no Newton rings are there will be always the same or is this not the case?

:?

Hi Rainer.

My experience is that everytime these modules are moved in and out of the focuser there is a slight shift in the angle they are held at. When doing CaK at 1a the filter is equally as sensitive to tilt as is a Ha etalon.

I have long ago put a black rubber 15 mm wide and no problems. No backlighting, no floating, and tilt adjustment.
