Saturday Sun 24th Feb 2024

Post by Carbon60 »

Another (seemingly rare) opportunity to capture some rays this morning. AR13590 is looking splendid and was flaring at the time I was observing.

Full disks imaged in Ha and CaK:

..and AR13590 in Ha, imaged during a flare event:

Thanks for looking.

Lovely images Stu. It's funny how I take more notice of the weather in the whole of the UK now to see whether you're (all) getting some sunshine! Looking forward to the next BAA meeting for top tips to hone my processing further!

Stu,
Can I ask what shadows and highlights settings you typically use in photoshop for h alpha specifically?
I've been lucky as a couple of friends have sent me some stacks to practice processing but I have a mental block with shadows and highlights for h alpha for some reason,
Thanks
Nic

Hi Nic,
Sorry...I can't help here as I don't use Photoshop. What I do use is PixInsight, but substantially only to do basic sharpening, brightness/contrast adjustment and colouring. For brightness/contrast I use the histogram function and play with the sliders until the image looks about right. Every session is different, so the resulting images vary and I don't have any specific settings as my go-to targets.

I think Alexandra uses Photoshop and the shadows/highlights functions.

Best.

Stuart
