A few prominence animations.

Post by smerral »

I have never really tried animations before. Here are a few taken over the last couple of weeks done with the Altair 102 ED-R and Daystar Quark Chromosphere. The timelapse in each case is 60 minutes. Sometimes there are internal reflections or interference patterns which become evident when the gain is turned up for fainter proms. So this is an issue I'm trying to sort out with flats.

Well done Brian there are some nice features captured in those animations. Did you use IMPPG and the Align Image Sequence feature under Tools?

You have some nice details in there Brian. Flats will help a lot with the uneven illumination.

Brian,
Very well done. Very professional in appearance. Did you notice the coronal rain in the first one?

Very nice Brian! Flats and image align should are the next steps to improve the quality.

Thanks everyone! I tried the image align in ImPPG but unfortunately my tracking was a bit too wayward and the program didn't do it for me. I ended up manually aligning in Registax 5, doing a batch process in Photoshop to blacken the disc and then finishing up with PIPP for the final animation.

I asked that exact same question in the Software section, what do you do when ImPGG align doesn't work? I got no responses :(
I used to use Registax 5 but it no longer works on my computer :(

It can be extremely difficult to align frames that have a blown out disk with bright proms and the seeing wasn't great. The software has nothing to "grab" onto if the surface is bubbling. If there aren't too many frames in the animation I manually align them in Photoshop in that case.

The way to use ImPPG for Alinement is to leave some detail on the disc. The information is still in the proms and is processed out later. Try different amounts and you will soon get the hang of it Brian.
