21 Mar '24 Ha Full Disk and CME Animation
Bit of a later start yesterday AM. Beautiful mild morning with just a light breeze :-)
Setup to capture some full disk data with the single-stacked Lunt 50/ASI178MM then removed the B600 blocking filter and added the Quark assembly to double-stack the setup. I run the ASI178MM bin 3x3 in this configuration. I collected a couple of still images around the disk then setup FC Autorun to gather time-lapse data around AR3614. The session was set for 60 minutes of data collection. The pups were getting really bored so we went out back to play fetch for a while, I'd stop by the telescope to nudge it back to the ROI from time to time. Sometime around 40 minutes in it was obvious that this was going to be pretty cool, we stopped playing and I just sat there in awe and watched the AR3614 region destabilize. I extended Autorun until my little laptop ran out of disk space. This was one of the coolest events I'd ever witnessed :-)
Apologies re. the animation file size!!
Cheers!
Wayne

Re: 21 Mar '24 Ha Full Disk and CME Animation
That is an awesome animation and wonderful shots Wayne! What you captured is known as a Disparition Brusque, or lift off of the filament/prom which was probably initiated in the disruption in the magnetic field around the AR that also appears to have some decent ribbon flaring going on at the same time. The CME, if indeed there was one, would not actually be visible, but you could verify whether one was involved by checking the SDO site and the 193 Angstrom 48 hr video. It looks like this area did indeed throw off a CME on 3/21 around 18:36UTC and that is confirmed on Space Weather Live. Great timing for this eruption!

Warren,
Thanks for the explanation. I saw that snap on Gong H-alpha later in the day, thought for sure it was a CME event. I need to be more careful with that.
Thanks!
