Quick closeup in Ca-k from today

Post by Dennis »

Hi,
the weather here is nothing but cloudy atm. I could manage a lucky shot between clouds and rain though. This active area is really something, hope for less clouds in the upcoming days.

Image was done without flatfield, stack of 100 images, gain 42, 5ms exposures and the imx432 camera.

Thanks for looking and cs.
Dennis

Excellent Calcium image you were able to take, Dennis. It is definitely a very complex and beautiful active area.

Hi Denis,

Just wondering whether your could try a respaced 150 mm refractor, just like Alfred did. This would significantly increase the resolution of your Ca K images.

The C9.25 is the best version of SC for blue light. Still, it is not diffraction limited at 393 nm. There is no doubt about it.
http://astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/in ... Strelh.jpg

You will be much happier with a respaced 150 mm refractor. I am just trying to help. This is your call ...

Clear skies,

Christian

These are excellent Dennis, with the filters very much on band. Do you have the filters after the Barlow / telecentric?

Thanks Mark, yes they are close to the camera way after the apm 2.7 barlow.

I thought the bandwidth looked tighter than at a 'native' focal length

Dennis,
The plasma looks really turbulent in your images. It reminds me of the dark turbulent clouds that often precede a thunderstorm.

Very nice.

James.

Thanks Warren, these are my first tries with these filters and there is still a lot to optimize. Mainly reflections and also have to update scope collimation. I was lucky with some okish spring conditions. But lots of fun.

See recent comments I have made to Alfred regards tilting.

If you have a reflection issue then the filter closest to the camera needs to be tilted to throw the reflection out of the field of view, only needs to be one or two degrees max.
