K-line and Ca-k from today

Post by Dennis »

Hi,
seeing was medium and i could manage some lucky shots of the large active area between and through some thin haze. Back to rainy weather now.

Nice week to all.

Very nice on both calcium images. The resolution is really good. The photosphere dominates the lower image but the chromosphere can be seen a little giving the picture a bit of a different look than white light. The photospheric granules and spots look awesome!! The first picture shows much more calcium detail, lower chromosphere with the supergranulation is noticeable as is the plage around the spots.

Two thumbs up!!

Wow, those are excellent CAK high-resolution images, Dennis!!

I am curious to know - What is the image scale? Alluxa double-stacked? Any tilting?

Looking forward to seeing even better images when the weather gets better.

Alfred

Thanks Alfred, image scale is aprox. f/40 with the imx432. Alluxa ds, very slight tilt on both, maybe 0.5-1°. Did you find a good tilt for your ds filters?

Are you testing the amount of tilt needed Dennis, or just using the tilt imparted by the shims that came with the filters?

I was using tilters and your method to tune both filters. That works good. Need to update the settings though because now im using a new image train.

Very very impressive images, Dennis!
A lot of chromospheric structures are visible with your Ca K setup already, the only seeing needed to resolve fibrils better.

Thanks, Dennis. For the filter nearest to the telescope - more than 1 degree. The tilting lever of the 3D Skybender is set to max traverse position. I am trying to find out the max tilt in the Skybender, in terms of degree. For the filter nearest to the camera, the tilting lever is slightly of the middle of traverse (should be around 0.5 degree).

It has been either cloudy or raining lately. Hope to get some good imaging sessions soon.

Clear skies

Alfred

I would try reversing the order of the filters in the skybender Alfred, I have found the filter nearest the scope needs to have minimal tilt, and the one closest to the camera needs the most tilt (out of the 2 filters) to give best results.

The filter closest to the camera is the one that is used to throw the reflections out of the fov, like the double stack unit on a pair of external etalons.
