3 hr and 40 min animation of AR3654 and huge prom on NW Limb 5/2/2024

Post by rigel123 »

My longest animation yet! I was hoping for clear skies with that great AR on the limb and with the exception of 3 1/2 minutes (there is an abrupt skip at the beginning of the animation when the pictured cloud came out of nowhere to shut things down for a bit) I got my wish along with that monster prom that was quite active. File is a bit large but not crazy big. Lunt LS60T DS/PO Saturn-M SQR/Meade Shorty 2X Barlow

Crikey, that animation is one of your best Warren! So much to watch there from the connecting dancing proms to the tornado like prom with the brief sharp spike from the disk just below it to the bright flare to the surge proms to the floating prom to the filaprom to the spicules. I believe I see some Coronal rain. This is top shelf stuff, well worthy of a SPOD!
Cracker images an added bonus!

Thanks Peter, Martin and Petr! Great description of everything I was seeing Peter! Marty posted some stills with loops and coronal rain that was hard to see here so I might play a little more with this to see if I can pull it out a bit more. Weather isn’t supposed to be great for a while so I’ll have some time on my hands!

Great animation Warren, such a good day for imaging when two significant features were so close to each other!

So after Marty had posted his images and noted there were loops around that active region I went back to my animation and used a new curve to see if I could highlight those loops because I knew they had to be there. Not in love with the inverted disk but the loops show nicely so I put this together as a shortened version because the variations in the disk really show up when it is inverted so I cut out the first portion of the animation to get rid of the bright (actually dark) disk portion.
