Wednesday Full Disc and More

Post by pdmphoton »

Continuing to refine tuning with the Lunt 130MT internal pressure tuner combined with a Coronado 90mm DSII.
Full disc images with the 183mm.
Close ups with a 174mm and 2.5X Powermate.
Very good seeing this morning in Meadview, AZ
Best,
Paul

Fantastic images!

So are you giving up resolution using the 90mm second stack in order to gain the benefits of the double stack?

Thank you for the compliment!

I do have the internal double stack unit for the 130MT. My seeing conditions are such that I frequently mask the scope down to 100mm. Double stacking the Lunt scopes with their internal etalons results in reflections that can be mitigated with a polarizing filter, however you lose a lot of light. Based on a suggestion from a well respected solar imager I am giving the front mounted 90mm DS a try as it eliminates the problem of internal reflections. I am actually finding that it does a better job than the Lunt DS unit when I am imaging a full disc with this scope.
I will switch to the Lunt DS unit in when I am after close-ups. Right now I am after a 1600mm that I will combine with a 1.25X Barlow which I believe will be an excellent combination for full discs without doing a mosaic.
