It looks like exactly the same price as the other one that was for sale. May be it is the same person and they buy and sell it on at a crazy price. They got $1000 last time, so it works.

Yeah too rich for me!
Otherwise I would have snapped it up....
You can buy a new 60mm Lunt CaK/B600 scope for that.

Here you go:
http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/pro ... 1604_.html
£1050
Or
http://www.widescreen-centre.co.uk/Prod ... cope_.html
£1030

Which is approx $1600 for our US folks.
A whole $100 cheaper than the buy it now price...

The LS6CaKMDd or LS6CaKMDs are each $718 direct from Lunt. The LS12CaKMDd or LS12CaKMDs are $1018, the LS18CaKMDd or LS18CaKMDs are $1194 and the LS34CaKMD is $2034. I can't see purchasing the PST CaK for more.

Quote from the seller:

Thank you very much for your feedback. Ours includes a full size tripod and "free" shipping to any buyer (even if they are from Japan or Australia). We know that a similar item was sold for about 1000 US dollars relatively recently. Let's see what happens."

Yeah the seller keeps pulling the auction just before the end if it does not reach close to the stupidly high BIN price...

It's been relisted again. This time without a BIN price, just a regular six day auction starting at $600. The seller does know the real fair market value, but like so many Ebay sellers, is in denial.

$600 may not be totally ludicrous. Let's just see if the seller doesn't withdraw the auction if the price isn't bidded up to the high side of $1000.

Personally I think it's unethical to withdraw an item during the auction for any reason other than force majeur e.g. theft of the item & I'm surprised that eBay allows you to do this.

I don't see the CaK PST for what it actually is - I see it a donor unit for a 25mm diameter CaK filter that can be used in a wedge to circumvent the Lunt 100mm rule. Compare it to a similar diameter Lunt CaK filter and the price isn't too high...

Just my two cents to play devils advocate ;)

OK, I think I can make a useful contribution here as I have both a PST CaK (unmodified) and a Lunt B1200 CaK.

1) I don't know exactly what is critical to the "100mm rule" on the Lunt but the hot mirror at the front end of the Lunt is about twice the diameter of that on the PST. This suggests that the PST CaK has a somewhat lower heat handling capability than the Lunt. (Unless extra energy rejection is used, in which case the 100mm rule on the Lunt can be relaxed.)

2) The transmission of my PST CaK is way less than 10% that of my Lunt unit. At minimum gain with my DMK41, the best I can hope for with the PST working at prime focus (f/10) is 1/54 sec, at noon in high summer; in winter I'm lucky to get 1/15 sec. The Lunt manages around 1/500 sec at f/18.

3) In practical terms, my Lunt CaK unit has significantly less contrast than my PST. Maybe that has something to do with the lower transmission (tighter bandwidth) but I find to get the same sort of contrast in the finished image, I'm shooting at gamma 50-60 with the Lunt, 100 with the PST CaK.

The nice thing about the PST CaK is the easy capability to make medium res full disk images. The low transmission & potential issues with astigmatism in the prism unit make it somewhat less useful for closeups. OK, a clever hack could eliminate the "magic box" issues but you're still left with the much smaller area of the hot mirror which recieves full power concentrated from the objective. Without an extra ERF I don't think it would be safe to use the active components from the PST CaK with more than about 50mm of aperture.

When I talk about the CaK PST as a donor scope, the only bit that is of use that is not possible to get as an 'off the shelf' component is a single 25mm diameter filter that sits around about where the blue collar at the base of the tube is. This has a pass of 2.2a at 393nm, and then is transparent from about 450nm upwards. Used in conjunction with a Baader K-line and a solar wedge without ND filtration you will get an exposure of ~1/5000sec at f10.

The rest of the CaK PST pretty much garbage. There is a soft coated filter in the black box that looks purple when held up to the light, this filter 'rusts' and becomes gradually more opaque as it fails (exactly the same ways as a Ha blocker filter does). There's a shortpass and another blocker in the eyepiece holder.

I find I have oodles of contrast with my CaK homebrew setup, I always image on gamma 100 and the only post processing I do is sharpening. http://brierleyhillsolar.blogspot.co.uk ... h-may.html

If I had a spare $600 floating around I would buy this CaK PST...

I wanted to bid too, having never used e-bay before, we took the advice of a friend who told us to use BidNip. Well, it never bid for us :? I would have gone up to $651 so this bidder was lucky.

If I can't use e-bay and don't have a clue why, what hope do I have for a PGR Grasshopper!

If anyone has a CaK PST for sale and want to do it the old fashioned way, like speak to me and ask if I want to but it, then let me know :(
