Ha spectroheliogram 4th April 2023

Post by Alun_H »

Using the Sol'Ex with 9 micron quartz slit and 72ED + Hoya ND 16 full aperture filter (still waiting on Astronomik L1) I ran off a few scans in the Hydrogen Alpha line. Resulting image is a stack of six out of eight, minimal processing in Photoshop CS2,flipped and rotated to correct orientation (remembered it this time).

Hi Alun,

Excellent. Need to warm up my Sol'Ex again but have had a lot to do and the weather was also not cooperating.

That looks really nice. Have you tried IMPPG yet? A little sharpening can help after stacking.

Is it my imagination or is the top edge a little less sharp than the bottom edge? It's difficult to get the full width in focus; I think that's the limitation of the Solex collimator lens. With Solex lens you may need to search for the best location where you can get the maximum width in focus.

Thank you Douglas, I have played around with IMPPG but I just cannot seem to get on with it,I use Astrosurface for wavelet sharpening and it has a nice noise removal tool as well.

The focus is softer on the top,I am having issues with the grating support, being 3D printed the plastic parts are not that flat and turning the grating
I then have to tighten/loosen the retaining bolts of the support adjustment dial. I will get it sorted eventually!
