Sun FD in H-Alpha, CaK and Continuum November 13th 2023

Post by arnedanielsen »

Dear friends,

Finally, after 26 days with no solar imaging, I was finally able to image the Sun again today! Winter solstice is approaching and the low altitude makes imaging challenging. The max altitude during todays session was only 12 degrees, but I was happy just to be able to image again.

Superb!!! :bow :hamster:
It is a pity you don't get the clear skies in the winter to catch the aurora we have been seeing lately. Do you have any snow yet?

Thank you very much everyone! Much appreciated!

Alexandra: I was very disappointed to be clouded out on the big display 10 days ago. There were some truly amazing images from places with clear skies. Well, hope there will be more chances throughout the winter.
As for snow, we had 15-20cm a couple of weeks back, but it's gone now.

Best regards,
Arne

Wow, 12 degrees above the horizon I don’t think I’d even see the sun for the trees and houses! Great set of disks!

Excellent full disk pictures. You processed them very well, they sparkle with tiny details while being virtually noise free. Despite the low sun, at least you had transparent pure sky and excellent seeing it appears!

Thanks! The transparency was good, but both the exposure times and seeing was affected by the low altitude.

Great images, Arne. It’s certainly getting harder to image as the season progresses.

Thanks Stu! Yes, the low altitude is challenging. It's definitely not prime season for solar observations from my latitude.

Hi Arne...

You have produced a set of very sharp FD images...well done :bow

The low elevation of the sun is a challenge but you made out very well.
