March 24 2024 Observations. 540nm

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today's session time was from 14:20 until 14:50 UTC. The skies were clear but the seeing was well below average. The temperature was 44F ( 6.6C ). Breezy.

I could see seven active regions on the photosphere today. Four regions were observed in the northern hemisphere with three of these showing labels on the KSO reference image. Three regions were observed in the southern hemisphere with all three showing NOAA number labeling on the KSO reference image.

A small unlabeled spot could be seen very close to the NE limb. It's faint faculae proved difficult to see. Further west but still in the NE quadrant I could see a single structured spot. It belongs to AR13619. Past the meridian in the NW quadrant like AR13619, AR13614 shows itself as a structured spot, meaning that it shows umbra-penumbra form. Just east of it I could barely make out a tiny pore. Further west lies AR13621 which consists of a small spot and a single pore.

Now largely in the SW quadrant AR13615 was a magnificent sight to see, even though the seeing was not good and the magnification has to be kept low because of it. It is big! The elongated box shape from yesterday has collapsed and flattened out but is still being " rode " by a dominant spot that is a little larger than the rest. I could see a tiny nick in the SW side of the umbra in that spot! Many other spots show umbrae within penumbrae of varying sizes and shapes. Most merged together with nothing symmetrical. The spots and pores are numerous! To the east in the SE quadrant lies AR13617. I could only make it out as a single spot. Still further east lies AR13620 which was seen as a single tiny spot with a faint facula trailing SE.

The granulation was not noticed at all this morning.

James
