March 24th - Ha Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

Sunday offered another clear day to explore the great activity on the sun and I wasn't going to let it pass by ;)

I only worked with the Ha filters as I lost a lot of time trying to get rid of glare and tuning issues, so by the time I was ready to image it was getting into the late morning and I had to move onto to other chores.

The first image is the FD taken with the ASI1600MM through the Lunt LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha and a 1.6x barlow ahead of the camera. The FD is shown in a few different views:

I wasn't happy with the way the DS mod was working on the Orion OTA, so I left it as a single stack and got these images:

If AR3615 wasn't such an impressive sight the proms would have stolen the show. The big prom in the south was by far one of the rmost impressive I've seen in ages ;)

Not sure if the clear skies will hold today or if I will even have time to get out to observe, but I really enjoyed the weekend views.

I'm envious.

What was the source of your glare? It's something I'm plagued with, though with a quark, when looking at proms..

At least I seem to remember so, it's been a terrible week with rain and cloud too frequent to note......

Call me Geoff.

I do what I do because I want to, and because I can....

Doesn't mean I know what I'm doing, though!

Geoff...

Regarding the glare, I'm not sure of the cause this time.

I will have to take it all apart and check for sources. I though I had a bit of a light leak but once fixed it still had a lot of glare, so back to the drawing board.
