Ahh, cirrus clouds, where is thy sting! 4/29/2024

Post by rigel123 »

I shouldn't complain since those that have gone without any sun for awhile are in my thoughts, but since I focus on animations those wispy, fair sky clouds can drive you crazy!! But I digress! Captured two animations that were saved mostly by Pixinsights Batch Linear Fit tool to soften the brightness fluctuations as wisp after wisp passed in front of the sun. Watching the Intensity level on the Hinode software was like watching the Stock Market go up and down. The intensity was fluctuating between -3.3 and -2.8 eV so not horrible but just a bit irritating. Caught a C2.8 flare in AR3654 in the first 1 hr 10 minute animation and then at the end of my session I cranked up Gain and Gamma just to check for any faint proms and caught 27 minutes of this very faint, floating prom (it's actually attached by faint coronal rain on either end if you look closely) before clouds finally decided to thicken up and end the session. Lovely day actually for working in the yard though!

Excellent FD and lovely animations - love the idea of coronal rain! They reminded me a bit of birds of prey hovering.
